Established in 2015, the Centre for Research and Community Action (CeRCA) is committed to protecting and promoting diverse ecosystems to address the impacts of climate change in Odisha. Our work integrates academic research with participatory approaches, ensuring that knowledge translates into meaningful community action. By fostering collaboration between researchers, practitioners, and local communities, CeRCA strives to build resilience, enhance biodiversity, and safeguard natural resources for future generations. We focus on conservation, sustainable development, and inclusive practices that empower communities to actively engage in climate action and ecosystem protection.

We help companies develop powerful corporate social
Our research initiatives span multiple disciplines, addressing complex challenges in identifying the root causes of vulnerabilities through inter-disciplinary research. What sets us apart is our commitment to bridging the gap between theory and practice. We collaborate with universities, practitioners, policymakers, and grassroots organizations to translate academic findings into actionable solutions, field-tested programs, and policy recommendations that create lasting change.
We collaborate with local communities and non-governmental organisations to set up “Field Stations” for continuous community actions and research to bring sustainable change. We make an attempt to engage with the younger generation to care for their mother earth. CeRCA believes in collective action and collaborate with knowledge institutions, corporate houses and other like-minded organisations for coordinated effort to rebuild the ecosystem.
CeRCA believes in community mobilisation which brings people together to discuss shared challenges, identify solutions, and take coordinated action. This collective engagement fosters ownership, strengthens local knowledge, and ensures that initiatives reflect the needs, priorities, and wisdom of those most affected. We believe that mobilised communities are resilient communities. By connecting science, local experience, and shared purpose, we work to ensure that people are not just reacting to climate and environmental challenges, but actively shaping a safer, healthier, and more sustainable future for all .
CeRCA is committed to influencing change and driving advocacy on the urgent issues shaping our planet’s future—ecosystem restoration, climate action, and disaster risk reduction. We believe that meaningful progress requires more than isolated projects; it demands a shift in mindsets, policies, and priorities at every level of society. Our advocacy efforts focus on raising awareness, shaping dialogue, and encouraging action among decision-makers, communities, and institutions. By highlighting the interconnectedness of environmental health, climate resilience, and human well-being, we work to ensure that these issues are seen not as separate challenges, but as shared responsibilities requiring collective solutions.
Odisha’s 575 km coastline is highly vulnerable to frequent storm surge, costal erosion and frequent cyclones. The coastal communities are at the frontline of these climate change impacts in terms of loosing their villages, agricultural lands, livelihood and hope for a sustainable future.
At CeRCA, we view mangroves not only as an ecosystem but, a community asset in enhancing resilience against disasters with multiple provisioning services. Our work on mangroves includes studying climate vulnerabilities of the coastal habitats, supporting local participation
International Mangroves Day is celebrated every year on 26th July as one of the flagship events of CeRCA, reaffirming the global and local commitment to conserving these vital ecosystems. The event provides an important platform for dialogue, reflection, and knowledge sharing
Empowering women, strengthening climate resilience Women are at the centre of climate adaptation strategies and are the leaders in resilience-building. In rural costal areas, women plays significant role from food production to care giving for the family members
Climate change solutions cannot succeed without innovative and supportive policies. At CeRCA, we initiate action research to bridge the gap between communities and decision-makers, ensuring that evidence from the field guides the climate resillient strategies
